Timonium - May 2026
Maybe Fasig-Tipton Mid-Atlantic May is a more accurate name, but it is still the Timonium sale to me.
This sale is going to be a mess because workout times are not going to be reported. Without paying a clocker, we will just be guessing at times. This makes picking pretend horses more difficult, but we will try anyway.
First I chose the best photo/pedigrees horses for each of the sires I like. I like the sires the pinhookers hate.
Then I went through each of the photos to find another short list. Hopefully, we will get some smart people to buy the horses I like at reasonable prices. I ignored all the fancy sire like Curlin or Flightline, or the pure sprinters. Only value/stamina horses for me.
Last year the average price for this sale was $135,000, but the median was only $60,000.
Let’s all remember that Preakness winning Napoleon Solo was just just a $40,000 Keeneland September yearling. It can be done, let’s try to find about 10 horses we like. These Timonium horses tend to more dirt horses because Ocala is run on polytrack.
I might be the only person who has Idol as his favorite sire.

Day 1 Results
The sale sale got off to a btg start with the average up to $150,000 and the median up to $75,000. The Saudi's bought a $2.1 million dollar Flightline colt.
I first picked out an expensive Upstart with a great photo. Then my friends at West Point grabbed a nice looking Drain the clock from my list. Then Mike Maker too a Mystic Guide for $80,000. The Eclipse guys took an expensive Girvin,. Late in the day a new owner took an expensive Volatile I liked.
There were lots of frustrating RNA’s, but the buyback rate was a low 23%
Day 2 Results
The second day was a little softer, but prices were still high. West point bought a $600,000 Audble and Eclipse finally stepped up for a $200,000 Girvin. Myracehorse.com also bought a mid-priced horse. Liz Crow bought an expensive Tapit. No Repole or Klarman, that is a little strange.

The better known sires sell for $130,000 to $200,00, and to get a bargain you have to step down to Pinehurst, Mystic Guide, Drain the Clock and Olympiad. The only horse of this group I would be excited about is the Justify, the rest are at best OK. I like the Ocala sale much better, and not reporting workout times makes this sale even more confusing.
Let’s watch these horse going forward.
Fancy Horses
