Ocala April 2026
My goal is to find 10 affordable horses in the $50,000 to $150,000 range.
Without run out times it is hard to put values on these horses. My final list will be horses bought by smart owners at reasonable prices. Maybe $50,000 to $150,000, maybe more for the faster works.
The top 5 are my favorite photos. The others are sires I want to watch.
My preference is too buy yearlings, but you have too watch this sale to determine consensus opinion. I also want to watch what the partnerships are buying.
The 9.3’s and 9.4’s will be too expensive, so let’s try to find some value.

Day 1 Results
I found two reasonable horses on the first day, but four others were disappointing RNA’s, and two were bid to crazy prices.
To look at the crazy prices consider #31. This is a little known $5,000 sire, Idol, from a nothing mare. The photo is above average, but not great. This was not a 9.3, 9.4, or even a 10.0 work, but a 10.1, and the horse sold for $210,000 to an experienced owner. My Honor AP sold to the Baffert boys for $750,000.
West Point fired at an ok Twirling Candy filly late in the day for $275,000. Seth Klarman bought two horses. Ironhorse Partners bought a decent Jack Christopher for $120,000. Casse paid almost $2 million for an Epicenter.
Liz Crowe bought a nice looking Curlin for $850,000 for a new group called Delta Squad, but it was a 10.1 work
The median price jumped from $60,000 to $80,000, and RNA’s were about the same as last year.
Day 2 Results
Sales remained strong with average prices up about 20%, and the median up more.
I added a boring daughter of Pinehurst #510, and one of my RNA’s from day 1 became a private purchase for $65,000 a Jack Christopher.
West Point bought an expensive Early Voting that had run 9.4, Myracehorse.com entered the show with a $425,000 McKenzie, and my friends at Zilla Racing bought a solid $70,000 Munnings.
Then late in the day West Point paid up for a nice looking $1,200,000 Cyberknife that ran a 9.4
Day 3 Results
Sales were strong, but everyone awaits a big Flightline that sells Friday.
My favorite horse sold to a new owner for a price above my comfort level ($235,000), but lets combine him with a $35,000 idea, and call my day slightly above average. Once again several RNA’s and withdrawals of horses I liked. Both West Point and Adelphi bought Charlatan’s, but did not like the photos. Myracehorse.com bought a silly horse for $80,000, and Zilla bought another $100,000 horse. Seth Klarman bought three more. Donato bought his first for $900,000. Little Red Feathers partner bought a $200,000 horse. Liz Crowe added another.
Day 4 Results
The big story was #1056 by Flightline selling for $10,500,000.
Final sale numbers were up about 20%.
Eclipse finally jumped in on the last day with two Drain the Clocks. Overall, I was not impressed by the any of the partnerships’ purchases.
My Early Voting idea was too expensive.
My final 10 horse group is very representative of horse I might buy with roughly a $100,000 budget. Mainly I get 2nd and 3rd tier sires with non-premium works
